We stand for reliability, flexibility, security and accessibility in solving all of your off-site, permanent and temporary storage needs.
The company was launched in 2004 by Managing Director Jon Wyles and Development Director John Harrington, with the aim of establishing a leading regional self storage business throughout the North of England.
The founders, who have extensive experience in the acquisition, development and management of commercial and residential property, scoured the region for suitable sites and the first store was opened in January 2005, in Wirral, with the acquisition of the former Candy Electronics factory at Bromborough.
Rapid growth
A second store opened in Bootle on North Merseyside in 2006, a third in Widnes in 2007 and a fourth store in Warrington in March 2008. Backed by investment from Bridges Ventures, the company is on target to open further stores during 2008, beginning with the new Preston store opening in July.
DIY storage
Do-it-yourself storage, part of the way of life for most Americans, is now a rapidly-growing industry in the UK, supplying services to a broad range of consumer and business customers. 90% of existing stores are located in London and the South East. Smart Storage is helping to change that.
Jon Wyles is a chartered surveyor and has completed the American Self Storage Association’s Manager Certification course. John Harrington is a property developer and owner of Harrington Homes.
