We’re sure you’re beginning to notice the onset of that typically British winter-chill… but this can only mean one thing – Christmas isn’t far behind!

Now, if you’re anything like us, you’ll be starting to make those vital initial purchases off your Christmas list for all your loved ones. You may even be starting to scope out A-grade hiding places, like our storage units, to ensure that any thoughtful purchases don’t become discovered before Santa descends the chimney.

However, during this season of sharing, it’s important to take a moment to think about those who may have a very different festive experience to you or I; namely terminally ill, disabled and disadvantaged children.

No child should have to go without, especially during the Christmas period. That’s why, at Smart Storage, we hold an annual toy appeal – the largest in the North West to be exact – to help bring back a little Christmas magic into the lives of those children who may need it the most.

A Real Smart Community Effort

As you can imagine, putting together the North West’s biggest toy appeal is no easy feat; especially for a company that is operating it in Altrincham, Warrington, Widnes and Preston… all at the same time. However, in true community spirit, our customers, as well the people around each of our sites, have pulled together in the build up to the launch of our 2016 appeal; supported, this year, by our latest partner, Gulliver’s World!

Starting the eleventh year of the appeal off right was essential to us. As such, the Smart Storage family, along with some of the charities and individuals supporting the cause, headed to Gulliver’s World last week for a launch party to remember. We had some extra special furry guest to make the day even more special; Altrincham FC’s Rocky Robin, Gulliver’s World’s very own Gully and Twinkle, Tiggeroo from JUMP and Pengi and Bobby from CAFT.

As you can see by all the smiles in the picture, we had a great day launching such an important appeal – and it was great to see so many people supporting a cause that we’re so passionate about! Our chosen local charities this year include JUMP, NSPCC Warrington and the Children’s Adventure Farm Trust… amongst many others.

Making an Impact

Last year, our appeal managed to collect over 10,000 toys; that’s 10,000 children benefitting from the generosity of our surrounding communities, able to spend Christmas with that little bit bigger smile on their face.

With that in mind, we’re hoping to smash that somewhat daunting target this year!

Our toy appeal organiser Paul Whittaker is confident that, if more people get involved this year, the target will easily be overtaken:

“The appeal’s message is simple: Please spare a thought for those children who just would not get a present this Christmas if it wasn’t for this appeal. So, when you are out buying for loved ones this year, just pick up that extra gift and drop it in to one of the many collection points.”

How You Can Help

If you would like to get involved and donate a toy or two to our Christmas Toy Appeal, we’re looking for new or like-new toys that are boxed. These can be dropped off at…
