2019 is coming to an end and we’re getting ready to welcome in a new decade. With 2020 just around the corner, what better time to look back at the past twelve months and all the great charities and community work Smart Storage was – and still is – involved in?

All of our team members believe it’s incredibly important to be part of our community and to play an important role within it. Each store supports a cause that’s dear to them and they actively fundraise for them throughout the year.

So, we’re rounding up some of these events and projects (as the full list is too numerous for just one article), most of which we’ll continue to support in 2020 as well.

MacMillan Coffee Morning

MacMillan is a fantastic organisation that helps people suffering from cancer, as well as their families, so we couldn’t be happier about participating in its Coffee Morning once more. This is something we do often at several of our stores.

This year, our Altrincham store customers baked cakes and brought them in, which we really appreciated, and our other stores had plenty of coffee and biscuits. We are so thankful to everyone who donated, from clients to team members, and to everyone who joined us for delicious drinks and food.

All in all, we raised more than £450 (our Liverpool store raised £170 of this total), so we were thrilled at another successful event.

The Smart Toy Appeal

Now in its 14th year, The Smart Toy Appeal is another wonderful initiative that aims to make Christmas a magical season for many struggling families and underprivileged children. By donating toys and driving donations, Smart Storage are happy to support these families and help to deliver joy and excitement.

This year, we partnered with Altrincham FC and Warrington Town FC, as well as with local businesses like Gascoigne Halman, Gladstone Brookes and Best Western Cresta Court, all of whom have toy donation points.

Smaller local charities will benefit from all the gifts and toys we’ve gathered this year. The Toy Appeal will accept donations right up until Christmas Eve, so consider buying an extra Christmas gift for someone in need this month!

The Wirral Ark

This is a local charity in Bromborough which provides support and services to homeless people – something important all year round, including during the Christmas period. Some of the team at The Wirral took part in Kip on Kop at the grounds of Tranmere Rovers to raise funds and awareness for this organisation.

The event consisted of a sleepout that raised thousands of pounds, so we were thrilled to be able to participate in such an incredible event. We also continue to deliver unwanted furniture and household items donated by our vacating customers to The Wirral Ark, which helps individuals get back on their feet.

Seaforth Community Shop

Smart Storage has consistently participated in a large number of charity and community events and project throughout the years, and the Seaforth Community Shop is a great example of that. In our Liverpool and Bromborough stores, we’ve set up donation points for anyone who wishes to contribute to this worthy cause.

The charity is putting together more Christmas Hampers for local families in need so, whether or not you’re a Smart Storage client, pop in if you’re in the area and add your contribution to our donation points!

Merseyside Dogs Home

We don’t forget our four-legged friends either. Everyone at Smart Storage loves dogs, so we’ve set up donation points for all things dog-related at Widnes. Our Widnes store is supporting Merseyside Dogs Home, so bring in packaged food or toiletries, dog food, and even gifts, as long as everything is new and unopened. You can also join us and donate at your store, if you’d like.

Charity and community work are important to us, not just during December and the festive season, but all year round. We have no intentions of stopping – on the contrary, we will continue to work with our existing charities and to participate in new events and projects in the upcoming year (and beyond).
